Differentiating Your Business in the New Retail Supply Chain Battleground

2020 was a challenging year that accelerated and evolved every shopping journey—a change that is here to stay—bringing to the forefront a pressing need for technology enablers that drive customer satisfaction and lifetime value. RELEX and RSR (Retail Systems Research) have partnered on a survey-based report that reveals how the “retail winners” who’ve over-performed in the last year set themselves apart from the pack through smart investments in the most profitable opportunity areas.

In our recent webinar, RELEX experts Marc Koehler, Senior Director and Tiina Kanninen, Director of Product Strategy and Management came together to share the data, analysis, and “tough love” recommendations found in the report. Beyond findings alone, they also shared their own insights into how technology can help optimize retailers’ supply chain efficiency—and ultimately, their cost to serve their customers.

“Retail winners aren’t sitting idle,” explains Koehler. The retailers who’ve performed best in the last year are still looking for ways “to continually improve and continually adapt … Retail winners are looking at multiple different facets of how to best strategically place inventory across the supply chain.”

Koehler also addresses the pressing need for technology enablers to help retailers address the impact of COVID-19, which only further accelerated an already rapid pace of change within retail: “Retailers are grappling with how to fulfill the growing online demand … not only how online demand is changing but how to fulfill that demand.” He recommends retailers seek technology built for ongoing adaptability, noting, “We can all acknowledge that the retail world is fast adapting and fast changing. You need a solution that is adaptable as well as scalable.”
